Class 146(1) In a binding mechanism comprising filing pins fixedly mounted on a base plate, pivotally mounted co-operating arched posts connected by a cranked bridge portion, and a retaining stop mounted on one or more sprung tongues cut and bent out of the base plate, the retaining stop is made from, or covered by, a plastics material such as polyamide, polyethylene, or polyvinylchloride. A stud shaped retaining stop 19 having a hemispherical, spherical, or cone shaped cap and a stem piece widened at the foot to produce a bulbous edge is mounted on the tongue 17 by means of an aperture therein. ,Alternatively a T-shaped tongue is bent out of the base plate and an oblong retaining stop of triangular crosssection or a hollow tubular retaining stop mounted thereon. In a further embodiment a plastic roller is mounted on a pin supported by two tongues bent out of the plate. The retaining stops are all releasably secured in position and hence are replaceable should they wear. The plastics material is preferably elastically deformable.
