Class 107 A road or pavement grating comprises two sets of intersecting metal bars at least one set of bars having upwardly opening pockets therein to receive a tread material, preferably consisting of an abrasive embedded in a hardened epoxy resin. As shown, the cross bars 2 and 3 are formed by compressing V-shaped channelling to form pockets 6 and 7 spaced apart by indented portions which are welded to the supporting beams 4 by welds indicated at 12 and 13. As shown in Fig. 2, the cross bars are deeper at their points of intersection than at their centres due to the curvature resulting from the pressing to form the indents, so that the abrasive filling 15 stands above the metal.
