Abstract

891,750. Fluid heaters. BROWN FINTUBE CO. Oct. 11, 1960 [Nov. 24; 1959], No. 34786/60. Class 64(1) Air or other gas or a liquid is heated in flowing through an annular space between an outer tube 10 and an inner tube 20 externally finned for most of its length but without such fins at at least one end thereof in a zone 27 adjacent a lateral conduit 12 communicating with the annular space, means such as a burner 30 being provided to discharge heating fluid into the interior of the inner tube, and a lining 35 of refractory or other heat insulating material being provided within the inner tube along the unfinned portion thereof to protect the same against overheating. The heat exchanger fluids may flow in co-current or as shown in counter-current. In the heat exchanger shown fin-free zones 26, 27 are provided at both ends of the inner tube to enable the fluid to be heated to flow circumferentially before entering and after leaving the finned section of the annular space. The outer tube is provided with an expansion joint 13 and may be supported by pedestals 14, 15 and 16, supports 15 and 16 being provided with rollers to permit expansion of the outer tube. Specifications 554,813, 670,574 and 739,853 are referred to.
