[Also in Groups XVII and XXII] In making a wall for a box or crate, a facing sheet is provided with tangs which are secured to an opposite facing sheet. A metal plate 21, Fig. 2, has tangs 22 punched therefrom which are pushed through a fibre or wood board 23, which may or may not have been provided with holes for the tangs, to contact a metal plate 24 and the assembly is placed between upper electrodes 26, 27 and a lower electrode 29, pressure being applied by a piston 31 to resistance weld the tangs to the plate 24 when a current is supplied for a brief period. The tangs may be welded one by one by a single manually or mechanically movable electrode 37, Fig. 1, and induction welding may be employed. To form the corner of a box the plate 25, Fig. 3, to which the tangs are welded is bent to form a right angle. Plates 41, Fig. 9, to which tangs 22 of plates 21 are welded are turned to cover the edges of boards 23 and have ears 42 pressed therefrom and perforated to receive a bolt 43 in forming the corner of a " knockdown '' bore. In a modification, the plates are extended beyond the ends of the boards and the ears are pressed inwardly. Two side walls may be connected by hooks 62, Fig. 13, welded to a side wall 63 and engaging ears 61 pressed from plate 60 of the other side wall.
