891,208. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. ST. REGIS PAPER CO. June 10, 1960, No. 20561/60. Class 42 (1). [Also in Group XVII] Apparatus for sealing the overlapping seam of wrappers enclosing loaves, and particularly applicable to composite wrappers having a central polyethylene panel surrounding the loaf sides secured to waxed paper portions covering the loaf ends, comprises a heated roller 24 which is oscillated into contact with the seam and when not in contact with it, rotated so as to present a new surface to the next package. Packages 57 with ends already secured and bearing seals 7 are moved by conveyer flights 2 across a gap between plates 42, 43. The roller 24, which may be covered with glass fibre impregnated with tetrafluorpethylene resin, is pivoted on a shaft 16 by arms 19 (21) and raised and lowered by cams 32 contacting followers 30 on the arms. A cam 33 oscillates a lever 34 carrying a pawl 38, the pawl engaging a ratchet 26 on the roller shaft to rotate the roller when clear of the packages. The roller is coated with silicone oil from a bath 60, by a roll 61, a wick 64 doctoring the oil on the roller and also cleaning the latter.
