A vehicle roof 1 which extends outwardly beyond the windsoreen 2 provides a space in which instruments 3 or other articles may be accommodated. The sealing strip 8 for the glass may be extended at 9 to form a head protection. A rim, which is preferably transparent and which may extend upwardly almost to the roof, may be provided at the inboard side of the space to retain articles in position.
