890,580. Magnetic data-storage apparatus. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 3, 1959 [April 16, 1958], No. 12102/58. Class 106 (1). A circuit providing two complementary output signals at SL, SL in response to signals from the read-head RH of magnetic drum, disc or tape data storage apparatus using the phasemodulation method of recording described in Specification 707,634 in which the polarity of the voltage induced in the read head at the instant of a strobe pulse is indicative of the binary digit being read, comprises an amplifier (transistor stages TX1-3 in cascade), a phasesplitter TX4, and gates TX5, 6 opened by strobe pulses from SS to enable the flip-flop TX8, 9 to be appropriately switched. The amplifier has negative feedback provided by undecoupled resistor R6, and D1 compensates for the non- linear input impedance of TX3.
