Abstract
890,416. Aircraft emergency fittings. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 29, 1958 [Oct. 2, 1957], No. 31031/58. Class 4. [Also in Group XL(c)] An aircraft is provided at a number of discrete points with radio signal transmitters each comprising a relay, all the relay windings being connected to a common current source so that on interruption of this connection owing to the aircraft having crashed, all the relay contacts are closed and the transmitters become operative. Fig. 1 shows an aircraft provided with seven transmitters 1-7, all the relay contacts of which are held open by connection of the windings in parallel to an energizing source 12 through leads such as 8, 9, and 10, 11. A switch may be provided at 20, the switch opening on occurrence of heavy shock, to ensure energizing of the transmitters on crash-landing. The relay windings may be connected in series. The transmitters may be switched off manually when the aircraft is grounded for a long time, so that the relay supply can be switched off. In case one of the supply leads should break during normal flight, which may be indicated by a lamp on the instrument panel, reserve leads are provided which can be switched in to the supply 12 or to an alternative supply. The reserve leads may be wired in parallel with the normal leads, or may be connected to second windings on the relays, in case a winding open circuits. The transmitter housings may be provided with shock absorbers.
