Abstract
889,963. Glass-washing machines. HOBART MANUFACTURING CO. May 29, 1959 [Nov. 6, 1958], No. 18405/59. Class 138(1). A glass-washing machine comprises an inner brush 38, outer brush 42, the inner and outer brushes 38, 42 being rotatable in opposite directions about a central axis, means for supplying a flow of water disposed between the brushes and means for mixing a cleansing fluid with the water during a portion of the washing cycle. The machine has three outer brushes 42 pivoted at 43 on carriers 46 which are pivoted on a frame 48. The pivots 43 enable the brushes 42 to take up the contour of different glasses and the carrier 46 have bob weights 55 enabling centrifugal force to move the pivot 43 inwards until the brushes 42 contact the glass. The brushes 42, 38 are mounted on shafts 62, 73 which have driving members 63, 74 respectively which are spring loaded to maintain them in frictional contact with the spring loaded driving member 77 of a motor 85. Cold water is supplied through a pipe 87, strainer 89, vacuum break 95, mixing chamber 98 to sprays 120 on the inner brush 38, sprays 111 on a ring main 109 and a spray 23 on pipe 226. Germicidal cleaning agent is supplied from a reservoir 100 by an adjustable pump 104 to the mixing chamber 98. The machine may wash with the agent and a mixture of water, followed by a water rinse or the operation may be preceded by a water wash. An adjustable electrical timing circuit renders the machine fully automatic, pressure valve 172 stopping machine if water pressure fails and a float operated switch 178 stopping the machine if the cleansing agent level falls in the reservoir 100. The machine is started by inserting a glass in a flexible entrance 31 which depresses a rod 52, passing through the brush 38, causing a cam 168 to operate a switch 170. Used cleaning fluid is disposed of through a conduit 222 having a visual overflow level at 225 in a chamber 23 to give warning of blockage.
