Class 137 [Also in Group XIV] A bedstead has a hollow spring mattress 6 with a covering impermeable to air. connected to a refrigerating unit 1 which supplies cold air to the mattress via opening 2, the air escaping from an opening 4 to pass over the occupant of the bed and return to the unit 1 via openings 5, 3 in a compartment formed in the mattress by a partition 7. An air impermeable sheet 15 limits air exchange with the exterior. The temperature of the air delivered to the bed is controlled by a thermostatically operated re-heat system or a bypass system with a thermostatically controlled vane. The air may be circulated by a fan or the unit 1 mounted above bed level and convection relied upon.
