Abstract
889,831. Moulding powdered materials. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E.I. Nov. 14, 1958 [Nov. 20, 1957; Feb. 6, 1958], No. 26808/58. Class 87(2). [Also in Groups II and XXI] Powdered materials are compacted by placing the powder 1 in a tube 2 fastened to a plate 3 at one end and closed by a stopper 4 at the other end, wrapping a high velocity detonating explosive 5 around the tube, and detonating the explosive simultaneously by means of a cap 7. The tube may be immersed in water. Wires or rods of the material being compacted may be positioned in the powder before compaction. The air in the tube may be evacuated and replaced by an inert gas. The powder may be preheated by induction heating. Magnetic material in the powder may be orientated by applying a magnetic field. The tube may be of the same material as the powder.
