Abstract
889,132. Gear-cutting. PFAUTER, M., PFAUTER, W., and PFAUTER, H., [trading as PFAUTER, H., [Firm of]]. June 18, 1958 [June 19, 1957], No. 19513/58. Class 83 (3). A machine tool, such as a hobbing machine, comprises means for engaging a blank and a finished workpiece simultaneously to transfer them to working and unloading positions respectively. The gear-blanks and gears are carried to and from the machine on pins 2 on a chain 32. A vertically reciprocable head 10 carries a head 6 containing a wedge 8 movable to operate jaws 7, 7<SP>1</SP> through levers 9, 9<SP>1</SP>. Blanks are loaded at position 50 where a pivoted gauge checks that they are correctly located. If the blanks are upside down, the gauge actuates a switch to stop the machine. The blanks are subsequently checked at the loading station by a toothed gauge which can only be operated correctly to allow the machine to continue to operate if it engages an untoothed surface. When a gear has been hobbed, the hob slide is rapidly retracted. The head 6 is lowered and a blank and a finished gear are gripped. The work is automatically released from its centres. The head 6 is then raised, rotated by an hydraulically operated rack, lowered and releases the gear and blank. In a modified gripping head 19, Fig. 10, the work-holding jaws 62, 62<SP>1</SP> are actuated through gears 63, 63<SP>1</SP> by gear segments 25, 25<SP>1</SP> oscillated by pins 24, 24<SP>1</SP> engaging cam grooves in an axially movable rod 66.
