Abstract
889,071. Dynamo-electric machines. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Nov. 20, 1959 [Nov. 27, 1958], No. 39389/59. Class 35. In a turbo-generator rotor constructed to allow the entry of a ventilating medium at both its ends and comprising a field winding having end windings 3 arranged between an enclosing retaining ring 4 and an interior cylindrical shield 5 having openings 7a through which at least part of the ventilating medium is directed into spaces 22 between the end windings, the shield 5 is radially spaced from the end windings to provide therebetween an annular gap 9 which is divided into inlet and outlet chambers for the medium. The chambers are defined by electrically insulating plates 6 which support the shield 5, blocks 16 which space apart the end windings, bars 19, and arcuate members 11. Thus part of the medium stream appears to flow through the openings 7a, the inlet chambers, the spaces 22, openings 12 in blocks 16, adjacent spaces 22, the outlet chambers, axial passageways and radial ducts of a retaining-ring support ring 20, to discharge radially at 13 the ducts acting as a fan. Another part 18 of the medium stream passes through radial openings 7b in the shield 5 and members 11 and then axially between the end windings to the outlet chambers. Yet another part 17 of the stream flows through shield apertures 14 to axial passageway 15 in the rotor core 1.
