Abstract
888,944. Automatic temperature control systems. DECCA RECORD CO. Ltd. July 5, 1960 [July 9, 1959], No. 23625/59. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] Electronic apparatus, contained in a thermally-insulated housing, is cooled by fluid from a refrigerator circulated in its housing and, if desired, heated by a heating blanket within the housing, a temperature-sensitive device in the housing controlling the internal temperature. Four insulated cabinets 10, 11, 12, 13 are stacked on a set of base units 14, 16, 18 which house a heat-exchanger 15 and refrigerator 17. The base units supply the cabinets with coolant, such as light oil, via pipe-lines 35, 36. Each cabinet Fig. 3, houses a number of plug-in units, Fig. 6, on which components 48 are mounted, and consists of an insulated housing with a lockable, air-tight insulated door at each end. Inside the insulated cabinet is an electrical heating blanket 40 and a ducted metal plate 21 which forms the inner surface of the cabinet. Each cabinet contains a pump (not shown) for the cooling fluid and, in each cabinet, the heating blanket and pump are controlled by a temperaturesensitive resistive element which is mounted on one of the plug-in component panels. The outer doors 23, 24 of the cabinet hinge downward in a horizontal position to provide a working- surface. The front door 23 carries a number of indicating lamps, the electrical connections for which are effected through contacts 28. Immediately behind the front and rear doors of the cabinet there are provided second doors 75 formed of transparent plastic material. The door 75 is provided with a series of vertical slots providing access to controls on the plug-in panels, these vertical slots can be covered by a slidable plate 76. The plug-in component panels are located within the cabinets by nylon strips 45. The plug-in unit consists of a metal frame 49 having flanges 50 along top and bottom edges. Along these flanges is mounted a sinuous spring strip 51 which makes good thermal contact with the ducted metal plate forming the inner surface of the cabinet. Transistors 73 and the temperature-control element are mounted on the metal surround 49 of the component panels by spring clips 71 (Fig. 9, not shown).
