Abstract

887,965. Sheet piling. AANNEMING MIJ J. P. VAN EESTEREN N.V. Aug. 15, 1960 [March 16, 1960], No. 28115/60. Class 68(2). To prevent sheet piling from bending forward when the ground in front is excavated, each pile 2 is rammed in with a cable 3 previously attached to or near its lower end and, at the same time or subsequently, to the upper end thereof, and of a greater length than the distance between its points of fixation to the pile, and after ramming and, if desired, after the excavation of material from in front of the pile, the cable between its points of attachment to the pile is tightened in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the pile and secured in its tightened condition. The cable is connected to an eye-piece 4 detachably held in a sleeve 7 welded around a hole in the pile. The cable may be tightened by coupling a tensioning member 9 to the eye-piece and progressively inserting said member from the front of the pile through said sleeve. The tensioning member is held in position by a pin 8 inserted in an opening 10 in the member and an opening in the sleeve.
