Abstract
887,827. Rotary sieves. BROWN INDUSTRIES Ltd., DAVID. Aug. 26, 1960 [Sept. 4, 1959], No. 30186/59. Class 117. A harvester feeds grain, weed seeds, chaff &c. through a duct 11 to a rotatable cleaning drum comprising concentric cylinders 13, 14 and 15. The outer cylinder is plain except for a short perforated section 12 at its rear end, and the other cylinders are perforated, with the perforations in the inner cylinder 15 larger than those in the cylinder 14. Each of the cylinders 14 and 15 comprises accurate sections 21 of wire mesh with reinforced edges, or perforated sheet metal, slid into circumferentially spaced frame members 18 mounted on inwardly extending prongs 16 secured to the outer cylinder. The members 18 may be disposed parallel to the drum or helically. Grain and weed seed fall to the space between cylinders 13 and 14 and are displaced rearwardly by a helical ridge, and the seed falls through the perforations in the outer cylinder into a hopper 24. Grain falls into a trough 22 containing an auger 23, and the chaff &c. falls clear of the trough on to the ground. Specification 854,184 is referred to.
