Abstract

887,657. Electric light fittings. A.E.I. LAMP & LIGHTING CO. Ltd. Sept. 7, 1959 [Sept. 15, 1958], No. 29497/58. Classes 75(2) and 75(4) A lantern for tubular electric lamps, e.g. fluorescent or other gaseous discharge lamps, having one or more internal light reflecting surfaces to provide a divergent beam with a relatively large beam angle is closed by a member of transparent material of uniform thickness having an overall depth which is small compared to the length and width of the member and having distributed across it or along it portions oppositely inclined to the central plane of the member, the inclined portions extending parallel to the internal reflecting surface or surfaces and the angle of inclination being such that substantially all the light rays from these surfaces will emerge from the lantern. The lantern comprises a trough shaped body 1 to which is secured a frame 3 supporting elongate curved reflectors 4 adjacent the side wall of the body. A tubular lamp 6 is mounted between the reflectors and surmounted by a strip reflector 7. The mouth of the fitting is closed by a member 9 hinged at one end and retained by a clip at the other. The member 9 is formed with triangulated corrugations distributed across it alternate portions 13a, 13b being oppositely inclined to the central plane of the member, the ends being closed by triangular and quadrilateral portions.
