Abstract

The invention comprises an improved method for the production of gibberellins by the cultivation of a gibberellin-producing fungus in an aqueous nutrient medium, which comprises adding to the medium 50-300 mg of senecioic acid (2,2-dimethylacrylic acid) or an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium salt thereof, per litre of medium; and an aqueous nutrient medium comprising a buffered sucrose solution containing 50-300 mg of senecioic acid or an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, or ammonium salt thereof, per litre of solution. Specified fungi are Fusarium moniliforme and Gibberella fujikuroi, and specified senecioic acid salts are the sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and ammonium salts. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 783,611.
