Abstract
886,454. Rotary railway switches. FEY, E. April 8, 1960 [April 10, 1959], No. 12599/60. Classes 104 (1) and 104 (2). A rotary switch has at least two rail elements b, c of which the ends lie on a circle of radius r having its centre on the rotary axis o of the switch, one of the elements b being of arcuate shape and the other c being rectilinear and extending tangentially to a geometric circle, the centre of which lies on the rotary axis o while its radius x is equal to the length of the perpendicular x 1 drawn between the rotary axis o and the tangent to the arcuate element b at either end of such element. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the rails b, c are interconnected by a member a and in other arrangements the rails are welded or otherwise secured to the top of a circular plate. In a modification, shown in Fig. 5, the rectilinear rail m passes through the rotary axis o and tangents t drawn from either end n 1 of the arcuate rail n pass through the axis o. A further modification, shown in Fig. 6, is a multiple cross-over switch and is provided with a rectilinear rail W arranged at a tangent to a geometrical circle having a radius r 1 and two concave arcuate rails u, v, the ends u 1 , v 1 of which are arranged on tangents at a distance x 2 from the axis o, which distance x 2 is equal to the radius r 1 of the geometrical circle. The rail elements b, c may be single or double rails.
