Class 43 The combination of a common safety pin comprising a back leg 10, a free ended pointed front leg 14, a spring coil 12 integral with both legs a safety head on the back leg, the head including a divider 20 for receiving, latching and shielding the pointed free end of the front leg, with a plastic safety cap 30 in position on and covering the safety head only, the remainder of the common safety pin being fully exposed, the cap closely fitting and permanently gripping the head and slightly overlapping some edges thereof for permanent attachment to the head, the cap comprising a pair of substantially straight spaced side walls and a curved closed end generally fitting the head and having an open end opposite the closed end so that the cap can be assembled to slide over the head concealing the head, a slot 38 in at least one wall of the cap, the slot extending from the edge of the cap at the open end to a point past the divider and receiving the free end portion of the front leg of the common safety pin, the walls of the cap being spaced laterally from the divider so that the free end portion of the front leg is enabled to be thrust through the slot and past the divider. During assembly the cap passes over a heated head and flows slightly under the edges 24 and 26 of the head and under the surface 40.
