Abstract

A catalyst comprises a calcined composite of below 40% of a hydrogenating Group V-VIII metal component and a base containing 95-20% of a refractory oxide and 5-80% of boron phosphate. Preferred hydrogenating components are Pt, oxides of Mo and Co, and oxides of Mo and Ni, while others listed are Pd, Ni, Co, Fe, Mn, Cr, Mo, W, V and Ni-W; the metals may be present as, e.g. sulphide, oxide or halide. Preferred oxide constituents are alumina and silica-alumina; other constituents mentioned are halogens, magnesia and combinations of silica with zirconia, titanium and boria. The catalysts of the invention are stated to have diminished coke lay-down in various hydrocarbon conversion reactions.
