Abstract
885,648. Selective printing. FABBRICA ITALIANA MACCHINE AZIENDALI. June 17, 1958 [July 24, 1957], No. 19364/58. Class 100(4) A printing machine for printing in a horizontal plane 11 for recording data from a computing machine, comprises means 109, 110 for transmitting movements of each individual main rack 101 of the computing machine to each rack 127 of the horizontal plane printing unit, and means for transmitting movement of racks 127 through gears 126, 124 to type-wheels 123 carried in a support 134 which may be yiedlingly lifted to effect impression, the racks 127 always remaining in engagement with the first gear 126. Each support 134 is slidingly mounted in guides 135-138 and individually lifted by a toggle 140, 141 when a small slide 143 moves to the right, Fig. 2. One end of the toggle is connected at 183 to a lever 147 resiliently corrected by a spring 148 so that if there is any abnormal pressure upon the type wheels 123 the entire assembly yields because of the spring 148. As the supports 134 are raised a slotted connection 131, 132 allows the racks 127 to keep in engagement with the lowermost gear wheel 126 setting the type-wheel 123. The racks 127 are corrected to small rods 128 operated by Bowden cables 110 from racks 109, cogs 108, supplementary racks 107, pinions 106 each placed on a support 111 capable of being displaced in a vertical direction. In the first semi-cycle of the computor the racks 101 are displaced and set type bars 1 for printing on a sheet 3, and the supports 111 are held in their lifted position and pinion 106 is released from rack 101. Prior to the striking of the subsequent semi-cycle, a cross-bar 115 permits engagement of pinion 106 with the main racks 101 which shift to set the pinions 106 and the horizontal printing unit. Impression is made on the raised wheels 123 by a flat platen 183 which is lowered by an eccentric 184. The platen 183 may contain fixed printing matter.
