Abstract

884,927. Capacitors. TELEGRAPH CONDENSER CO. Ltd. (Sprague Electric Co.). Aug. 31, 1960, No. 30001/60. Class 37. A series type rolled capacitor (Fig. 1), comprises dielectric layers 12, 14 overlapping a common unconnected foil electrode 20 and separating therefrom a pair of laterally-disposed foil electrodes 22, 26 separated by a dielectric spacer ribbon 16 and overlapping the dielectric layers; the whole being rolled together, impregnated, and the overlaps of 22, 26 being soldered to connecting wires 24, 28. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the foil electrode 20 may be protected by dielectric ribbons interposed between the electrode and each end of the capacitor. The dielectrics may be of paper, cellulose, polyethylene, terephthalate or polycarbonate, polyvinyldene chloride, polytetrafluoroethylene, or polychlorotrifluorethylene, and comprise a combination of interspersed layers of porous and non-porous material. The electrodes may be copper, aluminium or lead foils and the impregnant may be mineral oil or wax, polyisobutylene, chlorinated diphenyl or naphthalene, or materials polymerizable in situ such as n-vinyl carbazole, pentachlorostyrene, or divinyl benzene. Foils 22, 26 need not extend beyond dielectric layers 12, 14 but may be fitted with connecting tabs extending beyond the end of the roll. U.S.A.
