Abstract
A plastic modelling composition contains a grain flour (e.g wheat or rye), water, a hydrocarbon distillate (e.g. paraffin or other petroleum distillate with B.P. 150-350 DEG F.), calcium chloride, an additional non-toxic water soluble salt (e.g. Na Cl, or sodium hypochlorite or oxychloride), with or without wood particles (e.g. soft maple, tupels or other woods), preservatives and drying agents (e.g. borax), antiseptic agents (e.g. sodium benzoate, sodium/calcium propionate, sorbic, salicylic or acetic acids), hardening and astringent agents (e.g. various alums), perfumes and/or colouring materials. For a composition without wood particles, the preferred ranges by weight of the major ingredients are:- flour 25-45%, water 35-65%, salt 2-10%, CaCl2 2-10%, hydrocarbon distillate 1/2 -5%, with the total of flour, water, salt and CaCl2 10 to 40 times the weight of all other constituents. With wood particles, the preferred ranges are:-wood particles 2-30%, flour 15-45%, water 30-35%, salt 1-10%, CaCl2 1-10% and hydrocarbon distillate at least 1/2 %, the total of wood, flour, water, salt and CaCl2 20 to 40 times the weight of the remainder.
