Abstract

884,456. Valve circuits for radio reception. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. Feb. 24, 1958 [Feb. 23, 1957], No. 5849/58. Classes 40(5) and 40(6). The response of a single side band television receiver is varied by means of a direct-current controlled reactance. This may comprise a condenser 9 in series with a rectifier 10 whose resistance is varied by the D.C. potential applied to it from potentiometer 12, via H.F. filter 11. The variable reactance is shunted across the secondary of an I.F. tuned transformer 3 which as shown comprises a single tuned circuit, but which in another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) comprises a bandpass pair. In a further embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) a parallel-tuned is shunted across the rectifier, automatic control of response in accordance with the signal level being obtained, since the diode rectifies and is biased by the I.F. voltage appearing across it. The arrangement may alternatively be used to vary the video response, being connected in shunt to the input to the video amplifier (Fig. 5, not shown). The Specification also refers to the use of alternative D.C. controllable devices, e.g. voltage sensitive condensers, current or temperature sensitive resistors, ferrite cores, or thermionic valves.
