Abstract
884,244. Lubricating-systems. TRABON ENGINEERING CORPORATION. July 14, 1960, No. 24587/60. Class 12 (3). A lubricating system supplies lubricant to a number of stations to be lubricated against varying back pressures, and the supply may be cut off, or the pressure relieved on actuation of a pressure responsive means, when the back pressures exceed a predetermined limit. A supply source 18, Fig. 1, having a pump 28 actuated by a motor controlled by a pressureresponsive switch 29, supplies lubricant to stations 1-8 through a passage 20, a cycling distributer 9, and branch lines 55. The distributer 9 comprises a number of valve blocks 10-13, Fig. 3, bolted to end caps 14, 15, and each block has a bore 19 in which two integral pistons 26, 27, having a slide valve 46 therebetween, slide. Opening into each bore are valve ports 21-25 connected to passages 31- 35, the ports 21, 25, and 22, 24 being interconnected and the port 23 being cut off, when the pistons are in their right-hand limiting position as shown in block 10, and the ports 21, 23 and 22, 25 being interconnected, and the port 24 being cut off when the pistons are in their left-hand limiting position as shown in block 13. Lubricant passing through passage 20 enters a header 43 flows through passage 35 and port 25 in block 10, and through port 21 into passage 65, through port 62 in block 13, and thence to chamber 17. The pistons 26, 27 in block 13 are moved to the left, and fluid is forced from chamber 16, through passages 91, 66, past ports 22, 24, into passages 34, and thence to one of the stations 1-8, through a line 55. The movement of the pistons in block 13 to its leftward limiting position alters the valve porting so that lubricant from the header 43 passed through passage 35 and port 25 in block 13, into passage 32, and thence to chamber 17 of block 12, thus moving the pistons in the latter to their leftward limiting position. Lubricant from the chamber 16 in this block is forced through passage 19 in block 12, past interconnected ports 21, 23 in block 13 into passage 81 in block 12, and thence to a station 1-8 via line 55. The ports 25, 22 of block 12 are interconnected and lubricant moves the pistons in block 11 to the left, thus forcing the lubricant from chamber 16 and through passage 81 of said block. Ports 25 and 22 in block 11 are then connected and the pistons in block 10 are moved to the left to force the lubricants in chamber 16 of this block and through its passage 81. The ports 25 and 22 of block 10 are connected and lubricant flows through line 66 to the chamber 16 of block 13, and the pistons are moved to the right. The lubricant is supplied to the rest of the stations 1-8 in sequence as described, with the pistons moving in the opposite direction. The valve blocks may be arranged in a circular manner, and the arrangements of the ports may be varied, so long as a cyclic supply is maintained. The outlet pipes 55 may leave the distributer 9 in a direction normal to that shown in Fig. 3, and non-return valves are supplied in the passages 35 between the ports 25 and the header 43. The pistons 26, 27 and end chambers 16, 17 may be of different sizes to supply different quantities of lubricant.
