Abstract

The invention comprises alkylated di-p-xylylenes of up to three alkyl groups on each aromatic nucleus, e.g. 2-ethyl-di-p-xylylene. They may be prepared by conventional methods such as the Friedel Crafts reaction, and an example describes the preparation of 2-ethyl-di-p-xylylene by the Clemmersen reduction of acetyl-di-p-xylylene using amalgamated zinc with glacial acetic acid and concentrated hydrochloric acid, followed by solvent extraction and vacuum distillation.
