Abstract
In a nutritionally-balanced animal feed containing a broad-spectrum antibiotic of the tetracycline type e.g. tetracycline, chlortetracycline, oxytetracycline and 6-dimethyl-tetracyclines, and sources of calcium and phosphorus, the source of calcium is calcium sulphate and the source of phosphorus consists essentially of a phospheric acid compound substantially free from calcium, whereby the adverse effects of a normal calcium diet on tetracycline antibiotic blood levels in chicks and other animals is avoided. The feed may also include terephthalic acid to counteract the adverse effects, as described in Specification 856,290. As phosphoric acid compounds, there may be employed orthophospheric acid and alkali metal phosphates such as sodium dihydrogen, disodium hydrogen, and tri-sodium ortho phosphates. U.S.A. Specification 2,806,789 also is referred to.
