[Also in Group XX] A device for viewing film strip movable between two reels comprises a casing and an eye-piece and means for driving either reel to take-up the film by selective engagement of a pinion on each reel holder with a floating intermediate pinion coupled to a driving pinion. As shown in Fig. 3, 34 is the normal take-up reel, a gear 46 on the spindle 42 therefor meshing with a selectively positionable " floating " gear 66 rotatable by means of an external crank which rotates pinion gear 80 (Fig. 5) meshing with gear teeth in a recessed portion of the gear 66. The driving moment of pinion 80 on gear 66 holds spindle 72 of the latter against one end of an arcuate slot 74. When the sense of rotation of the driving crank is reversed, the rotation imparted to gear 66, which is resiliently clamped by leaf spring 76, causes the spindle 72 of gear 66 to traverse the slot whereby continued rotation of the crank will bring the pinion gear 82 into driving engagement with the gear 44 to rewind the film with a velocity ratio of 4: 1 compared with the take-up.
