Abstract

883,292. Pulse generating circuits. AMP Inc. July 20, 1960 [July 24, 1959], No. 25236/60. Class 40(6). In a pulse generator of the type in which pulses are connected to a load through a latching type of electronic switch, a saturable inductor is connected across the load for regulating the voltage-time product of the output pulses and a turn-off voltage is derived from output pulse and applied to the switch after the pulse is applied to the load, the inductor remaining saturated until after the switch is turned off. In Fig. 1 a delay line 16 is charged through a resistor 14 from a voltage source 10 and then discharged through a load 42 upon the application of input pulse from a source 20 to a latching type switch 18 such as a thyratron valve or a similar transistor. A saturable inductor 36 is connected across the load and arranged so that when the desired product of voltage and time of the output pulse is reached the inductor saturates and effectively short circuits the load. The pulse applied to the load is also applied through transformer 24 to one end of a delay line 30 and to the other end of the delay line. The resultant delayed output pulse from the left hand end of line 30 occurs after the end of the required output pulse supplied to the load and passes through transformer 26 to switch off the switch 18. Meanwhile, the resulting output pulse from the right hand end of line 30 has maintained the inductor 36 saturated. Thereafter, the inductor is reset by winding 38. Resistances R1, R2 RN represent the windings of a magnetic core shift register constituting the load and preferably core 34 has the same characeristics as the cores of the load and is exposed to the same environment.
