Classes 20(3) and 20(4) Mullions and transoms for curtain walling are constructed from bars each formed from two flanged channel-section components f, g of sheet metal attached to one another by said flanges, each component having one flange curled over and clamped by rolling or pressing around the adjacent flange of the co-operating component, so as to form a hollow bar provided with a longitudinal flange at each side. The bars are connected end-to-end as required by plugs of appropriate cross section inserted in their adjacent ends. Similar plugs, provided with brackets, are inserted on the tops and bottoms of the mullions to provide means for firing the walling within a wall opening of the building. The ends of bars constituting transoms are provided with plug inserts and are slotted so as to slidably engage with the longitudinal flanges of the mullions where they are located by pins inserted through their plugged ends and through the flanges of the mullions. Trim plates t may be clipped over metal fingers s attached to the front faces of the mullions. Glazing bars p may be provided, with wooden or other sealing strips inserted in the spaces q.
