Abstract

882,023. Wigs. JAYCOTT, R., and JAYCOTT, R. B. Aug. 30, 1960 [June 1, 1959], No. 18620/59. Class 131 A wig comprises a rubber foundation in the form of a skull cap over hairs or hair-like filaments extending through the foundation and resiliently gripped thereby. The foundation is moulded by filling a suitably shaped hemispherical mould to the desired depth with a mixture of latexes having appropriate extensibility and penetrability and containing vulcanizing agents and mineral fillers, the latex being drained, after coagulation to form a thin film on the mould, through a channel connected to the base of the mould and closed by a removable plug. Coagulation may be assisted by heat and is preferably in stages to provide a tapered edge to the foundation. A machine of the kind disclosed in Specification 717,292 may be used to, simultaneously, perforate the foundation and insert hairs therein. The wig is secured to a doll's head by glue or rubber solution but when intended for human use is provided with aeration apertures and internal ribs. External strengthening ridges between the runs of hair may also be formed.
