Abstract

881,701. Moulding hollow articles from polytetrafluoroethylene. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 26, 1960 [Sept. 11, 1959], No. 31034/59. Class 87(2). Polytetrafluoroethylene is placed in a mould 1, a rubber or p.v.c. core 8 is placed on the material, the space around the core is filled with p.t.f.e., and the core expanded by longitudinal pressure to mould the p.t.f.e. As shown in Fig. 1, pressure is first applied to the ram 6 until its surface becomes co-planar with the annular surface of the mould closure 5. Pressure is then applied with the ram 3. In a modification, the bottom of the mould may be closed and after the upper ram has moved the core from the top mould closure the mould is moved upwards to slide over the top mould closure. In a further modification, a core is located in a hole in a bottom mould closure, the mould is filled with p.t.f.e., a top mould closure secured to the mould, and the pressure is applied by a ram which acts through the hole in the bottom mould closure on the ram.
