Abstract

The surface of rolled material is descaled by contact with compressed abrasive powder. A working lever has on its curved surface contacting the powder a row of rectangular steps. The pitch of the steps corresponds to the average particle size of the abrasive powder. - The working element (1) is fitted to a lever (5), mounted on a shaft (8) with its hub (10). The surface which contacts the abrasive powder (4) is stepped (6) with parallel elements (17) at right angles to each other. The distance (a) should equal the average size of the particles of abrasive powder. The shaft (8) has a drive to create the force required to compress the powder and to remove the scale (3). The magnetic core (11) of an electromagnet (not shown) is applied to the working element (1) on the side opposite to the steps (7). The abrasive powder is magnetized by the electromagnet and loses its free-running capacity.
