Abstract

880,554. Spring seats. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Aug. 17, 1959 [Sept. 5, 1958], No. 28020/59. Class 52(4) The part of a one-piece moulded upholstery padding layer covering a sprung seat which supports the pelvic bones of a seated person is made of less flexible material than the remainder of the layer. This part may have various shapes (Figs. 2 and 5, not shown) and may extend laterally for the full width of the seat (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). The difference in flexibility is achieved by varying the density of the fibres in a rubberised fibre padding layer. As shown, a greater density of pig bristle is produced in the area 8 of layer 7 which, after the bristles have been dipped in latex, has been pressed in a mould and baked. In a modification, the density of the bristles or fibres vary gradually to produce a zone of transition between the more and less stiff parts of the padding layer. Layer 6 of cocoanut fibre, wadding 4 and upholstery cover 5 are provided. Reference is made to the use of inserted patches of foam, rubber or synthetic sponge.
