Abstract

880,370. Pneumatic conveyers. PORTASILO Ltd. June 1, 1960 [Oct. 7, 1959], No. 34044/59. Class 78 (1). The invention relates to a container 1 for powdery or granular material which can be discharged from the container 1 under the action of gas under pressure to fluidize the material so that it will flow out of the delivery pipe 7. According to the invention, a valve 13 is provided on the outlet side of the inlet 9 to the pipe 7 and means 16 are provided for opening the valve 13 even when the container is filled to its normal height with material. The valve 13 serves, when open, to act as a by-pass for material to flow directly into the pipe 7 and so enable delivery to continue in spite of a blockage of the inlet 9. Compressed-air is supplied to a space 5 below a porous floor in order to fluidize the granular material so that normally it will flow out of the container into the inlet 9 under the control of a valve 8. A non- return valve is provided at 10 between the interior of the container and the pipe 7. The means 16 comprises a handle which may be disposed to pass to the outside of the container. There may be a plurality of valves 13 at different levels, each having separate actuating means. The valve 13 may be a sleeve valve having either rotary or axial operation.
