Abstract
A plastic composition containing asbestos, a filler and a synthetic resin binder is produced by hardening a mixture of these materials and a plasticiser at a temperature below 400 DEG F., and adding 15% to 22,5% by weight of this finely ground mixture to another mixture of asbestos with the same synthetic resin, plasticiser and inert filler. In the preferred embodiment the composition of the two mixtures is identical and the preferred composition range is 12,75%-15% asbestos, 20%-30% resin, 1%-20% plasticiser and 50%-60% filler. The final mixture may be moulded at 350 DEG F. and 5000 p.s.i. or rolled into sheets which are then coated or sprayed with coloured paint, clear plastic, coloured veneer or a slate flour resin mixture. The mixture may also be formed into a paste with a solvent such as acetone, alcohol, pentane, ether or methylene chloride. The fillers used are, silica, slate, clay, limestone, coal, wood flour, sawdust, mineral waste, lithapone, CdO, TiO2, ZnO, Ca SO4, Cd SO4 and, BaSO4, BaO. The resins are thermoplastic or thermosetting or cellulose derivatives e.g. polyester resins, polyethylene, rubber and vinyl resins. The plasticisers are diethyl or dimethyl phthalate, triethyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate, ethoxy (dimethoxy ethyl phthalate), methyl cellosolve stearate, triethylene dicaprylate.
