Abstract
879,949. Light controlled potentiometers. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 6, 1958 [March 9, 1597], No. 7250/58. Class 40(3) [Also in Group XXXVI] In an adjustable voltage dividing device, the input voltage V1, Fig. 1, is applied across a fixed resistance 5 and a light sensitive resistance 6 (see Group XXXVI) connected in series and the output voltage Vu is varied by varying the light incident on the light sensitive resistor. Various methods of varying the light are described, e.g. varying the light source intensity, Fig. 5 (not shown), applying the light via a rotatable disc of varying density or applying the light via a fixed aperture and a rotatable aperture, Figs. 3 and 4, (not shown), which may be formed in various shapes to provide a variety of potentiometer laws. In a further arrangement, Fig. 6, the input is applied to two light sensitive resistors 6, 60 connected in series and the incident light is arranged so that one resistor receives more illumination when the other receives less.
