Abstract
Filaments are produced by spinning viscose containing cellulose of relatively uniform chain length at a level of 300-800 DP into an acid saline regenerating spin bath containing at least 6% by weight of a zinc salt, the viscose and/or the spin bath containing 0,1%-1% by weight of dimethylamine or dimethyl formamide. The viscose may also contain 0,1% by weight or less of paranitrosodimethylaniline or hexamethylene diamine. The viscose may be prepared from sulphite wood cellulose, prehydrolysed Kraft, cotton linters, resin-free pulp, high DP pulp of uniform chain length or preoxidized pulp of low DP and uniform chain length and preferably contains 4%-13% by weight of cellulose and 5%-13% by weight of caustic soda. The spin bath preferably contains 6%-12% by weight ZnSO4 and 9%-10% by weight H2SO4 at 45 DEG -70 DEG C. The extruded filaments are preferably passed in contact with the spin bath for at least 150 inches while stretching at least 70% during regeneration.
