Abstract
878,203. Fusible cut-outs. LANGE, E., and NATIONAL INDUSTRI A.S. Oct. 14, 1959 [Jan. 5, 1959], No. 34759/59. Class 38 (1). A fuse wire 8 passes through a gap between spaced parts 4, 5 of two electrodes 2, 3 within an extinguishing chamber 1 containing, e.g. gas, inert powder or liquid, and having apertures 6, 7 for the fuse wire and apertures 11, 12 adjacent parts 9, 10 of the electrodes 2, 3 respectively. The wire 8 is fixed to anchor rods 13, 14, provided respectively with a head abutment 17 and a screw-threaded recess, which are secured to blade contact carriers 15, 16 connected electrically to apertured plates 25, 26 through end caps 23, 24. The plates 25, 26 are clamped against the extinguishing chamber 1 by means of caps 23, 24 and an insulating cylinder 37. When the fuse melts arcs are formed between the rods 13, 14 and in the apertures 11, 12 between the plates 25, 26 and electrodes 2, 3 respectively and also across the gap between the electrodes 2, 3. Increase in pressure in the chamber 1 causes the extinguishing medium to flow through the apertures to extinguish the first three of these arcs and break the current. The escaping medium passes through two chambers in each end cap to reduce noise. Specification 791,690 is referred to.
