877,276. Semi-conductor rectifiers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Jan. 6, 1960 [Jan. 9, 1959], No. 904/59. Class 37. A mounting arrangement for semi-conductor rectifiers having cooling fins comprises two tubular members arranged one within the other and defining therebetween a space through which cooling air is directed in the direction of length of the tubular members, and means for mounting the rectifiers on one of the members so that the cooling fins, at least, are situated in the said space. In Fig. 2, six vertical rows (two only shown) of three series-connected rectifiers 3 are mounted on a tubular member 1 of insulating material by brackets 15. The rectifiers, each of which comprises a silicon diode 4 screwed into a socket in a cooling fin assembly 5, form the arms of a three-phase bridge, and A.C. bus-bars 6, D.C. bus-bars 7, and fuses 8 are also mounted on member 1. The rectifiers are surrounded by an earthed metallic member 2 comprising two semicylindrical sections having flanges 9 which are bolted together. Air is forced along the annular space between members 1, 2 by a fan 11, the member 1 being tapered at its lower end and having an internal baffle 13 and holes 14 which provide an auxiliary supply of air to the annular space. In modifications, the rectifiers are mounted upon strips of insulating material which are in turn mounted on the member 1, which may be metallic, or they are insulatedly mounted upon the inner surface of member 2; the bus-bars 6, 7 may be located in the annular space.
