Class 143 [Also in Group XIX] A weighing scale incorporates an arm 26 which is adjustably movable over a graduated dial 21 in a path generally parallel with that of the scale pointer 22, and means operative when the arm and the pointer are aligned to control the flow of material being weighed. Adjustably mounted on the arm is an indicator with a pointer portion 62b whose distance from and orientation with respect to the dial graduations is the same throughout its range of adjustment. As shown, the portion 62b of the indicator is integral with an arcuate portion 62a whose centre of curvature lies on the common rotational axis of the scale pointer 22 and the arm 26. This arcuate portion 62a is adjustably movable in a lot 26c (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) in the arm 26 to which it is secured, after adjustment, by a screw 60. The control means actuated by alignment of pointer 22 and arm 26 is a mercury switch 44 (Fig. 3) carried by a cradle 42 which is tilted about a pivot 43 in response to axial movement of a shaft 57 whenever the pointer 22 and arm 26 become aligned, shaft 57 being pushed by a crank 55 moved by rotation of a shaft 52 to which it is attached. The shaft 52 is mounted in bearings 53 carried by the arm 26 and is turned by the engagement of a pin 50, carried by the pointer 22, with a butterfly trip member 51, carried by the shaft 52 (see Fig. 7). The above indicating and controlling means are enclosed in a dust-proof casing 25 having a transparent cover 30 and attached by hinges 25a to the weighing mechanism 13. The invention is described as applied to an automatic feed weigher in which the mercury switch interrupts a motor driving a vibratory or like feeder when the pointer 22 passes the arm 26, the relative position of arm 26 and pointer 62b being adjusted so that the travel of pointer 22 between the positions of arm 26 and pointer 62b corresponds to the amount of material fed to the weighing apparatus after the mercury switch is actuated.
