Abstract
970, 026. Weighing apparatus calibration. TOLEDO SCALE CORPORATION. May 7, 1963, No. 17901/63. Heading G1W. A fan type weighing machine, Fig. 1, has a calibrating means including a spring 95 (Fig. 7) operatively connected to its indicator system which is selectively adjustable so to adjust the sensitivity of the scale that there is a linear relationship between the weight of a load and the distance moved by the indicator. Upward movement of the end of a beam 32 (Figs. 4, 7) where it engages a counterbalance spring 33 (Fig. 4), due to a load on weigh pan 28, is transmitted to the lower end of a strut 70 through a flexible strip (Fig. 8, not shown). The upper end of the strut is connected to a crank member 65 fixed to a shaft 57 which carries indicator pointers 30 (Fig. 1). A calibrator spring 93 is hooked to the crank member and to an end of a calibrator arm 97 carried in slots in a calibrator tube 56. The arm 97 is adjustable up and down in the slots in which it is frictionally held, by means of a screw 103 against the action of a spring 111, to vary the force applied by the spring 95 to the crank and thus to balance out the non-linear error caused by the action of the crank. The force of the spring 95 is also adjustable by means of a U-shaped clip 114 (detailed in Fig. 2, not shown) which changes the number of active turns in the spring. A further means of adjustment is by varying the line of action of the spring 95 by sliding the arm 97 in the slots in the longitudinal direction of the arm. The complete indicator section of the machine can be removed from fixingpoints 42 and remounted in fixing points 45 so that the chart is disposed at an angle of 90 degrees to the position shown in Fig. 1. The sensitivity is adjustable at zero, one quarter, one half, three quarters and full load capacity positions of the scale.
