Abstract

The "blinding" of the pores of a microfilter, caused by growth of bacteria or by organic slime, is prevented by irradiating the filter with ultra-violet light, preferably through an optical filter which intercepts the ozoneforming components of the radiation. Preferably a guard is fitted to mask the lamp and concentrate the radiation. The micro-filter may be the outward-flow rotary drum filter of Specification 588,885.
