[Class 1 (i)] In apparatus for irradiating foodstuffs with ultra-violet light, a tubular shield 26 is fitted between the lamp 16 and the container 10 for the material to be treated. It may be attached to the lamp by slotted projections 33 engaging studs on the lamp casing, and may have a gallery 28 under which are screened air holes.
