Abstract

876,402. Ventilation. CONNOR ENGINEERING CORPORATION. Nov. 4, 1958 [Nov. 20, 1957], No. 35452/58. Class 137. A dual duct valve attenuator in an air conditioning system comprises separate hot and cold air ducts 2 and 3 which have variable dampers 6 and 6a connected by flexible cables 11 and 23 to an oscillating control member 20, so that actuation of the control 20 effects simultaneous opening of one duct and closing of the other. The dampers 6 and 6a are helical compression springs and the ducts are closed by caps 7 and 8 which are attached to a bell crank control member ZU at 19 and 29, via rod 8a, flexible cable 11 and pulley system 12,13 and 15, and rod 8a, cable 23 and pulley system 26, 24 and 25 respectively. The pulleys 15 and 25 are located on an adjustable arm 17 which is movable on a threaded rod 34, the position of the arm 17 determining the effective length of cables 11 and 23 and thus the extent of the opening of the dampers 6 or 6a whilst maintaining the total air volume constant. In Fig. 1 the bell crank 20 is pivotally mounted at 31 and its movement is effected by a link 32 which is pivoted at 33 eccentrically of the pivot 31. In Fig. 7, a lever 40 pivoted at 41, replaces the member 17 and the T-shaped control member 20 is operated by a rod 42 connected to a motor 43 controlled by a thermostat 44. In another embodiment, see Fig..9, a motor 50 is connected to a link 32a pivoted to the T element 20 at 33a and a motor 51 controlled by a pressure response device regulates the air volume flowing into the mixing chamber by automatically raising or lowering a lever 40a carrying pulleys 13a and 24a over which the flexible cables 11 and 23 extend.
