Abstract

Industrial slurries of argillaceous silicate minerals having a reduced moisture content in relation to viscosity are obtained by the addition of 0,001 to 0,1% of at least one salt of an organic acid of an average degree of polymerization of 70 to 170. The alkali metal or ammonium salts are preferred, whilst salts specified are those from carboxymethylcellulose, polyacrylic acid, polyvinyl sulphonic acid, co-polymers of acrylic and polyvinyl sulphonic acids, and co-polymers of crotonic or maleic acid with vinyl acetate or proprionate. Cement slurries may be so treated. The addition may be to the solid material whereby grinding is improved, and the solids in the slurry are thus smaller. Specification 777,940 is referred to.
