Abstract
876,377. Cathode ray oscillographs. BUSH & RANK CINTEL Ltd. Oct. 26, 1959 [Oct. 24, 1958], No. 34108/58. Class 40(7) A cathode-ray tube display apparatus comprises means for producing a long time-base trace by using pairs of cathode ray tubes. A square wave input at 17 appears at the outputs of device 8 as the input and its inverse A, B. One output controls a time-base circuit 7 which gives a symmetrical triangular time-base which is fed to tubes 1-6. The beams are switched on only when traversing from left to right in tubes 1, 3, 5, waveform C, and from right to left in tubes 2, 4, 6, waveform D. On reception of an initiating signal at 28 units 9, 10 send latching signals to gate and clamp circuits 24, 26 and 25, 27, Fig. 3 (not shown). Staircase generators 18, 19 are thus unclamped and generate discrete voltages E, F which periodically and alternately change from one to the next of a succession of values in synchronism with the outputs from device 8. These discrete voltages are mixed in mixer amplifiers 20, 21 with the signals to be displayed, which are obtained from terminal 23 via a phase-splitter 22. The mixed signals pass to the vertical deflection plates. Circuits 11, 13, 15 are primed by voltages G, H, I, respectively and circuits 12, 14, 16 are primed by voltages J, K, L respectively, these voltages being developed under the control of the outputs from device 8 and units 9, 10. The circuits 11-16 give waveforms M-R, respectively, and selectively switch on the electron beams in the tubes 1-6, the stages in units 9, 10 each and successively responding to a complete cycle of the associated staircase generator. Thus the traces for three-step staircase generators appear as discrete time-bases on the faces of tubes 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 4, 3, 4, 5, 6, 5, 6, 5, 6. When the last time-base has been traced the units 9, 10 emit an unlatching signal which closes their associated gate and clamp circuits 24, 26 and 25, 27. Specification 876,376 is referred to.
