Abstract

The invention comprises monoazo pigment dyestuffs of formula:-R-N=N-R1 wherein R is the radical of a 5-nitro- 2-amino-benzene- 1-carboxylic acid amide in which the nitrogen atom of the amide group is disubstituted and R1 is the radical of an azo component, and wherein any carboxylic or sulphonic acids groups present in the azo component radical R1 of the dyestuff have been reacted with polyvalent metallic compounds to give lakes. The dyes are prepared in the usual manner and when the product contains sulphonic and/or carboxylic acid groups the dye is reacted with, for example, a water-soluble salt of calcium, magnesium, barium, strontium, aluminium, zinc, cadmium, lead or manganese. The dyes and lakes are used for colouring lacquers and plastics and for the pigment dyeing of paper or textiles in brown, red, orange and yellow shades. In examples: (1) 5-nitro- 2-aminobenzene- 1-carboxylic acid dimethylamide is diazotized and coupled in acetic acid medium with 1-(21 : 31-hydroxynaphthoylamino)- 4-chloro- 2 : 5-dimethoxybenzene; in similar examples the following additional components are specified:-5-nitro- 2-aminobenzene-1-carboxylic acid-morpholide or -piperidide or -diethylamide or -N-methyl- N-phenylamide and the 1-(21 : 31-hydroxynaphthoylamino) derivatives of -4-chloro- 2-methylbenzene, 2-methylbenzene, 2-ethoxybenzene, 2 : 6-dimethylbenzene, 2-methyl-4-methoxybenzene, 4-methoxybenzene and 5-chloro- 2 : 4-dimethoxybenzene, 1-acetoacetylamino- 2 : 5-dimethoxy- 4-chlorobenzene, acetoacetylamino- 2-methoxybenzene, and 1-phenyl-or -(21 : 51-dichlorophenyl)- 3-methyl- 5-pyrazolone; (2) the dyestuff 5-nitro- 2-aminobenzene- 1-carboxylic acid dimethylamide --> 1-(41-sulpho-phenyl)- 3-methyl- 5-pyrazolone is treated with barium chloride in aqueous acetic acid; in similar examples the following additional components are specified:-5-nitro- 2-aminobenzene- 1-carboxylic acid-diethylamide or -piperidide or -N-methyl- N-phenylamide and 2-naphthol-3 : 6-disulphonic acid, 2-naphthol- 7-sulphonic acid, 1-naphthol- 4-sulphonic acid, 2-naphthol-3-carboxylic acid and 1-(31-sulphophenyl)- 3-methyl- 5-pyrazolone.
