Abstract

A tetraaminodiboron is made by reacting a compound of the formula B2(NR2),4, where R is a monovalent aliphatic or cycloaliphatic organic radical having at least one hydrogen atom on its a -carbon atom, with a compound of the formula R12NH or R11NH2, where R1 is a monovalent aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical having at least one hydrogen atom on its a -carbon atom or a phenyl radical or substituted phenyl radical having hydrogen atoms in the ortho-positions, or R12NH is piperidine, and R11 is an alkyl radical, with not more than 18 carbon atoms or a phenyl or substituted phenyl radical, the boiling point of the amine R2NH which corresponds with the reactant B2(NR2)4 being lower than that of the amine R12NH or R11NH2. The tetraaminodiboron reactants B2(NR2)4 are described and claimed in Specification 868,191. It is preferred to use tetra(dialkylamino)diborons whose alkyl radicals have from 1 to 3 carbon atoms. A number of amine reactants are specified. The transamination may be catalyzed by ammonium chloride, bromide or sulphate, or an amine salt of hydrochloric, hydrobromic, sulphuric or trifluoracetic acid.
